Thursday, July 18, 2002 at 09:30 JST TOKYO — Defunct drugmaker Green Cross Corp concealed the
fact that 14 or 15 patients in Hiroshima and other regions were infected
with hepatitis C in 1986 and 1987 by the company's blood products,
according to in-house reports released Wednesday by the Health, Labor
and Welfare Ministry.
Green Cross, now part of Osaka-based Mitsubishi Pharma Corp, did not
report the cases to the authorities even though it was aware of them
about seven months before a group hepatitis C infection in Aomori
Prefecture, triggered by its tainted blood products, was brought to
light in April 1987, according to the reports. (Kyodo News)
