PANA Wire Service (allafrica.com) (07/27/02)
During the first phase of the national polio immunization
campaign in Angola, about 4.2 million children under the age of
five were vaccinated, according to Angolan health minister
Albertina Hamukwaya. Speaking at the launch of the second phase
of the immunization effort, Hamukwaya said that continued peace
should allow polio to be eradicated from the country by 2005.
The World Health Organization, UNICEF, Rotary International, the
U.S. Agency for International Development, and the British,
Portuguese, and Dutch governments were thanked for their
assistance in the polio eradication effort.
