Ever since beginning of the history of vaccinations there has been a controversy regarding the efficacy and safety of vaccines. Take for instance, Dr. Edward Jenner, who developed the vaccine for the small pox. He gave this vaccine to his 10 month old son and the child remained mentally retarded until he died at the age of 21. It is possible that the manufacturers of vaccines may be putting profits ahead of safety and the need for safer vaccines are not given priority. Homeopathic physicians offer safer alternatives against all types of viral infections, without any side effects whatsoever. These are also very cost effective.

The recent debate in the Canadian Medical Association Journal over the cost effectiveness and efficacy of the flu vaccine that is being administered in Ontario is a prime example. Dr. Demicheli, an Italian epidemiologist, argues with Dr. Schabas that the efficacy rate is only 60% and this refers only to the ability of the vaccine to produce antibodies. Indeed, when the ability of the vaccine to prevent clinical disease is measured the efficacy is only about 25%. This is less than a placebo response. I would have liked to have seen the government use 10 million dollars from the 38 million that was spent on this mass immunization for double blind studies using homeopathy as a method of flu prevention. I am surprised that the Canadian government is not investigating other alternatives, in lieu of the many adverse reactions that have recently been reported in British Columbia and Quebec. It makes me question if the doctors themselves have not been keeping up to date with the many publications in prestigious medical journals noting the adverse reactions to the flu vaccine and the positive studies using homeopathy..

.In 1989 there was a double blind , placebo controlled influenza study done on 487 patients, who had been referred by 149 different doctors. Over half who were given the homeopathic remedy called oscilloccoccinum, for treatment of influenza-like symptoms, recovered from the flu within 48 hours. The Lancet was not only impressed with the results but by how well the study was conducted . The study was published in the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology in 1989.

It is unheard of in India for any one to take a flu vaccine. We have remedies for the flu such as Eupatorium, Gelsemium, Baptisia and Influenzinum, which are given according to the symptoms the patient presents with. The very nature of the way a virus mutates is suggestive that it is extremely difficult to accurately predict which strain of flu to use for the next year's epidemic. This is the beauty of Homeopathy. We do not need to be astrologers, to predict which strain will hit next year, as homeopathy deals with treating according to the symptoms. The flu vaccine is grown on chick embryos and anyone with an egg allergy may have an adverse reaction.. Preservatives and adjuvants, such as mercury and formaldehyde which are in the flu vaccine, may cause problems for some people.

There are many countries that recognize homeopathy as part of their health care system. The royal family in England is a great believer in Homeopathy,and the Queen of England has her own Homeopathic physician.Why has Canada not looked into homeopathy as a safer alternative?.

Dr. Samuel Hahnemann , the founder of homeopathy, first used Belledonna as a preventive medicine for scarlet fever in 1801. Epidemics can be effectively eradicated using homeopathy. He suggested Rhus Tox and Bryonia for the typhus epidemic in 1813. He knew about energy medicine over 200 years ago and how it works on the vital force of the body with the principle of "like cures like".

Dr. Boenninghausen used Thuja and Variolinum for the prevention of smallpox and Dorothy Shepherd used Pertussin as a preventive for whooping cough . Dr Allen used Diptherinum as preventive for diphtheria for 25 years. There are reports of studies done in India and Brazil about the efficacy of Homeopathic medicines used as preventives. For example, in August of 1974 , in Guarantingueta, Brazil, there was a serious outbreak of meningitis. Eighteen thousand six hundred and forty children were given Menigococcinum 10CH while 6340 did not receive it. In the 18,640 , only 4 cases developed the disease while in the 6340 there were 34 children who developed meningitis.

In India, in a Capital of the State, there was a severe epidemic of meningitis and two doctors working in the hospital got the infection and died. The Health Minister of the State , who was a medical doctor, invited the homeopathic physicians to offer the homeopathic preventive. Meningococcinum was the suggested medicine and was administered to all the staff of the hospital and to all patients that were admitted. The result was that the morbidity was much reduced and the mortality became zero.

Some years ago in India an epidemic of pneumonic plague was effectively controlled by a homeopathic medicine called Phosphorus, and in another district viral encephalitis was controlled by giving Belladonna.

It is not unusual for the Indian government to announce on the radio or television what homeopathic remedy their citizens should take when an epidemic has struck. In an Indian state known as Rajasthan,several districts were affected with malaria epidemic which was successfully controlled / treated with Arsenic Album .

Not only is Homeopathy effective in treating epidemics but it is also effective in helping victims with vaccine damage. In India, we do not see such an alarming increase in the rate of autism . Could this possibility be due to the fact that Indian children do not receive nearly as many vaccines as their North American counter-parts? Canadian children receive over 22 vaccines before they enter school.

Many more vaccines are being developed as we speak. I would find it highly unlikely that an effective vaccine for AIDS is ever possible considering how quickly the virus is mutating.

In the British Homeopathic Journal in 1993 my study on the evaluation of homeopathic therapy in 129 asymptotic HIV carriers was published.These patients were treated with homeopathic medicines on the basis of the individual's constitutional(both mental/emotional and physical ) characteristics. Twelve of the patients reverted back to negative serology for HIV antibodies after treatment varying 3-16 months. One hundred and seventeen patients were followed for five years and the majority remained symptom free while receiving homeopathic treatment .In 1999 the British Homeopathic Journal reported the results of a homeopathic double blind study which I was involved with also. This study was done on patients with HIV infection. Assessment of progress was made by evaluation of CD4+ve lymphocyte counts, which was the prospectively defined main outcome measure of the study: The results were compared with the base line immune status. The study suggested a possible role of homeopathic treatment in HIV infection in the symptomatic phase as evidenced by the statistically significant elevation of base line immune status in persistent generalized lymphadenopathy.

In conclusion, as a practicing homeopath for over 40 years, I am impressed with the immense benefits using homeopathic medicines. I can only surmise that countries like Canada are not yet aware that safer and more cost effective alternatives such as Homeopathy have been used with great success in other parts of the world .In India, even though we are known as third world country, our government supports our right to choose which modality of medicine best suits our needs. It has been a privilege to share my knowledge with you, and I hope that it may inspire your government to integrate homeopathy into the medical system in your country.
