Letter: Our MMR shame
The Independent - United Kingdom; Jan 11, 2002
BY SUSAN HAMLYN

Sir: If, as Mr Wadeson suggests, we should "accept the minuscule risk that we may be one of the unfortunate, rare individuals who suffer an adverse reaction" to the MMR vaccine (letter, 9 January), then we must also accept the damage done to these "rare individuals" as a necessary evil in the interests of the majority. We must also, presumably, acknowledge our responsibility to care for the damaged individuals according to their medical needs and not force them to spend years in courts of law, making a case which shames us all.
