we want mmr jab answers
A MUM who believes her son's autism is directly linked to the controversial
MMR vaccine today begged health bosses: "Give us some answers."
Joyce Turner has always regretted allowing her son David, now 12, to have the
three-in-one jab when he was a tot.
The youngster's co-ordination and speech started to deteriorate after he had
the vaccine.
Joyce and husband Terry, of Rede Avenue, Hebburn, are convinced that his
physical decline was a direct result of the jab.
The couple felt so strongly that there was a connection between the two, they
underwent a barrage of genetic tests before having another child.
They were given the all-clear and their daughter Lucy, five, is perfectly
healthy.
But despite their strong feelings, the couple are not seeking compensation -
all they want are answers and action.
Joyce said: "We can't be 100 per cent sure that the jab resulted in
David's autism, but we believe there is enough of a doubt to at least allow
parents to have the single vaccine."
The couple even changed their GP when he refused to allow Lucy to have the
single jab.
Joyce said: "After what happened to David, we were adamant Lucy would have
the single jab."
South Tyneside public health chief Dr Bashir Malik said there was no evidence
to link the MMR jab and autism.
