“Nurseries to Warn Parents of MMR Rate”

Independent (UK) (www.independent.co.uk) (02/12/02); Gray, Chris

The National Day Nurseries Association (NNDA) in the United Kingdom plans to issue revised guidelines in an awareness campaign to alert parents to the health risks of daycare from children who have not been vaccinated against measles, mumps and rubella.  Some experts are recommending barring children from daycare unless their parents are able to produce proof of vaccination, but the strategic director of the NNDA, Karen Walker, said such exclusion could be illegal under equal opportunity laws.  Instead, the association will issue recommendations to nurseries giving parents the option of removing their children from the daycare facilities.  Meanwhile, Sir Liam Donaldson, the nation’s chief medical officer, is set to begin a massive campaign encouraging parents to get the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine for their children.
