Advertiser (AU) (www.theadvertiser.news.com.au) (02/20/02) P. 9;

Owen-Brown, Michael

In Australia, a vaccine that protects children and adults from meningococcal C, a strain of meningococcal disease that accounts for about 40 percent of Australia’s meningococcal cases and the most deaths, is now available from doctors.  Wyeth Australia, the vaccine’s manufacturer, said that only one dose of the vaccine is needed to protect people over the age of 12 months from the disease throughout their lifetime, but infants require three doses.  The vaccine was developed in Britain and first approved in 1999.
