“Dilution Could Extend Smallpox Vaccine Supply”

The director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci, said Sunday that in case of a bioterror attack using smallpox, the United States’ current supply of 15 million doses of smallpox vaccine could be diluted.  Fauci, who addressed the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, noted that tests to see whether the diluted vaccine could still offer protection against smallpox have been “very successful.”
