“Three Out of Four Parents Favour Single Jabs for MMR” Guardian Unlimited (UK) (www.guardian.co.uk) (02/20/02) P. 1;
Travis, Alan
In the United Kingdom, a recent opinion poll has found that almost three-quarters of all parents surveyed want the National Health Service to provide free separate shots for rubella, mumps, and measles. The results of the poll indicate that British government ministers are losing the campaign to convince parents that the MMR vaccine is completely safe. According to the poll, approximately one-fifth of parents with children under five are so concerned about the reported—but unproven—link between the MMR vaccine and autism that they would be willing to spend hundreds of pounds to get their children vaccinated with single shots. What is more worrying, however, is the fact that 4 percent of parents with small children say they will not allow their children to be vaccinated against any of the three diseases.
