"Whooping Cough Slightly on Rise"

CTK - Czech News Agency (www.ctk-online.cz/english) (12/18/02)

The incidence of whooping cough has increased this year in the Czech Republic, according to health officials.  This year, physicians have recorded 250 cases of the disease, compared to an average of 200 annual cases in the past.  However, chief health officer Michael Vit asserts there is no cause for alarm, and that the situation is no worse than in neighboring countries.  The most recent cases have been recorded in Protejov, south Moravia; Chrudim, central Bohemia; and Ostrava, north Moravia.
