"Shot Around the World: Volunteer to Teach About Measles"

Daily Oklahoman (www.newsok.com) (12/04/02) P. 1; Whitaker, Lori

Kelli Hays, an American Red Cross volunteer from Norman, Okla., and an

Oklahoma University Medical Center labor and delivery nurse, will travel to

Ghana to oversee an international measles effort called the Measles

Initiative.  The five-year campaign began last February, backed by several

national health organizations partnering to prevent the disease from

striking and killing more children in sub-Saharan Africa.  According to

Hays, the increased availability of vaccinations could help stop the

disease.  The Red Cross' National Youth Council is working to raise some

$12 million to pay for the shots.
