"New Guidelines From CDC Aim to Improve Lab Security"
Washington Post (www.washingtonpost.com) (12/06/02) P. A7
The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is set to publish
regulations that will require laboratories that handle 42 "select agents"
to beef up security. The mandates will include monitoring areas where
deadly pathogens are stored, locking up the agents, and limiting access to
those authorized to work with these agents. The rules were devised
according to congressional orders after last year's anthrax mailings.
