"Meningitis Vaccine Trial Faces Delay"
Palmerston North Evening Standard (NZ) (www.nabspace.co.nz/evestd.htm)
(12/24/02) P. 2
A new trial for a vaccine that is designed to prevent group B meningococcal disease has been put off, according to the New Zealand Health Ministry. The agency said that the vaccine's producer, Chiron of the United States, is having trouble making enough of the vaccine for the trial. The trial was originally slated to begin next year, but the manufacturing troubles have moved it back to January 2004, said meningococcal vaccine strategy coordinator Jane O'Hallahan. The ministry intends to vaccinate all people under the age of 20 years for the disease.
