"Executive Plans Pneumonia Jabs for the Elderly"
Scotsman (www.scotsman.com) (12/24/02) P. 6 ; Macdonell, Hamish
Under a new plan by the Scottish Executive, every citizen aged 65 years or older in the country will be vaccinated against pneumonia. Pneumonia is one of the most common killers of the elderly and very young in the United Kingdom. The Scottish initiative is to begin next fall, targeting about 785,000 seniors. Additionally, Dr. Mac Armstrong, Scotland's chief medical officer, emphasized several key points to seniors on the matter of keeping healthy during the winter months and advised anyone living nearby to routinely check up on elderly neighbors. He also recommended flu shots.
