"Disaster Centres Plan for Smallpox Attacks: Smallpox Disaster Plans" London Guardian (www.guardian.co.uk/guardian) (12/03/02) P. 1; Meikle, James
Britain announced a smallpox defense plan in which hundreds of medical and Ministry of Defense workers are to be immunized against the disease. Twelve regional disaster centers will be established across the nation. In areas with a confirmed case of smallpox, a care center will be set up with at least 143 staff members with the capacity for treating 40 patients. Britain will use the ring vaccination technique of inoculating people who had been in close contact with a person in the 24 hours before smallpox symptoms were observed.
