Chua: Enough vaccine for pilgrims

MUAR: Muslims planning to perform the haj next month should have no problem getting their free-of-charge mencevax vaccine at all government hospitals or clinics in the country.

Health Minister Datuk Chua Jui Meng said Malaysia had more than 110,000 doses of the vaccine for the pilgrims.

“The Saudi Government has made it compulsory for pilgrims from all over the world to be vaccinated with an anti-meningitis vaccine before entering the country.

“I have checked with the respective supplier and was told Malaysia has an ample stock of the vaccine,” he told reporters after opening the Muar Chua Clan Chiyang Association building on Sunday.

Chua said Muslims should not doubt the vaccine because it had been certified halal as against the non-halal monomune vaccine.

“The hospitals and clinics will not charge for the vaccine as we have decided to give the vaccine free of charge,” he said.

On the association building, Chua, who is its patron, said the three-storey building would cost about RM800,000 and would be located in Jalan Haji Jaib here.

“The clan was founded by the Kapitan of Muar Chua Tuah Soon in 1887 and today it has more than 20,000 members in the country,” he added.
