In India, Bharat Biotech has completed clinical
trials of its typhoid vaccine and is awaiting approval from the drug controller
before releasing the vaccine to the market next month, according to Bharat
chairman and managing director Krishna Ella. Because the existing typhoid
vaccines are imported, Bharat will likely have a pricing advantage, as it plans
to manufacture its vaccine locally, at its plant in Hyderabad. The plant will
be able to produce 6 million doses of vaccine a year, the company said.
