U.S. IMMUNIZATION NEWS
"Aventis Recalls, Withdraws Meningococcal Vaccine Lots" Infectious Diseases in Children (www.idinchildren.com) (11/02) Vol. 15, No. 11, P. 19
Four lots of single-dose vials of Aventis Pasteur's Menommune vaccine have been recalled because they may exhibit reduced protection against serotype A Neisseria meningitis. The affected products, which the company says pose no danger, were utilized in the first six months of release. Anyone who received the recalled lots have been given warning letters. Serotype A meningitis occurs very infrequently in the United States. The only people recommended to be revaccinated are those traveling to a country where the meningitis type is more common.
