U.S. IMMUNIZATION NEWS

"Announcement: National Network for Immunization Information Seeks Partner"

The National Network for Immunization Information (NNii) is seeking a new institutional partner.  Now in its fourth year, the NNii has established its credibility with the public, professions, policy makers and the media as an unbiased source of current, science-based information about immunization. NNii was formed by physicians, nurses and researchers to communicate scientific information in ways that are useful and understandable, with the goal of helping people make informed decisions about immunizations.

NNii has functioned as a virtual center.  Its Steering Committee recognizes the need for a more permanent base, preferably in an academic or foundation setting.  An appropriate setting is one with ongoing programs of education, research, communication and public health policy development around issues of preventive health, including immunization.  Since NNii is dependent on support from grants that do not include the pharmaceutical industry and government, ability to seek outside funding from other sources will be

required.   For more information about NNii, its website is

www.immunizationinfo.org.

NNii requests a simple letter of interest by January 6, 2003 indicating the individual to contact in your organization.  NNii staff will assist serious applicants in a more detailed exploration.  Responses should be sent to Louis Z. Cooper, MD, Interim Director, NNii, c/o Infectious Diseases Society of America, Suite 600, 66 Canal Center Plaza, Alexandria, VA 22314.

Samuel L. Katz, MD and Louis Sullivan, MD, Co-Chairs

National Network for Immunization Information

NNii is a partnership of the Infectious Diseases Society of America, the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Nurses Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
