U.S. IMMUNIZATION NEWS
"Travel Advisory: Get Proper Shots Before Taking Trip Abroad" Washington Times (www.washtimes.com) (08/27/02) P. B4; Toto, Christian
Dr. Michael Zimring, co-head of the Center for Wilderness and travel Medicine at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore, recommends an immunization window of four to six weeks before traveling to foreign countries. He admits to erring on the side of safety when it comes to inoculations for overseas travel, perhaps more so because he understands what is at stake for travelers who go unprepared. When it comes to determining what inoculations are needed, Zimring says it primarily depends on what kind of trip (rural or urban), where, and in what order various countries are on one's itinerary. Travelers should know, too, that most insurance companies will not pay for travel inoculations unless the travel is business-related, which means a serious of shots may cost anywhere from $200 to $300.
