"Parents Worry Over Links of MMR Drug Firms to Safety Experts" London Telegraph (www.telegraph.co.uk) (08/25/02) P. 4; Fraser, Lorraine
Fifteen of the 36 Committee on Safety of Medicines members for the British government are linked to manufacturers of the measles, mump, and rubella (MMR) vaccine. The safety issues surrounding the vaccine have caused concern among parents about possible conflicts of interest. No evidence exists to suggests that MMR recommendations have been influenced by the committee members' association with the pharmaceutical companies, however. A code of practice at the Department of Health prohibits committee members from making decisions on products in which they have an interest.
