PARENTS in Merseyside have paid out £720,000 for
single measles, mumps and rubella vaccinations in just six months, the
ECHO can reveal today (Monday, August 19).
Since February mums and dads of 4,000 children have
shunned the controversial MMR vaccine in favour of the single jabs.
They have refused to let their children have the
MMR injection because of an alleged link to autism and bowel disease.
Liverpool is one of just a handful of places in the
country offering parents the £60-a-time single jabs.
Kathryn Durnford, spokeswoman for Direct Health
2000, who operate a clinic in Rodney Street, said the figures proved
that parents had lost confidence in MMR.
She said: "Clearly parents have lost faith with
this current government's vaccination programme.
"The parents we see are intelligent people who
understand the importance of getting their children vaccinated but want
a choice.
"There is increasing evidence that some youngsters
are at risk of developing autism and inflammatory bowel disease after
having the MMR jab, and even if they have just 1% of doubt parents are
not willing to compromise their children's health.
"The single jabs offer them a way of vaccinating
their children safely." |
