U.S. IMMUNIZATION NEWS
"Orlando to Test Smallpox Vaccine"
Orlando Sentinel ( www.orlandosentinel.com ) (08/05/02) P. A1;
Suriano, Robyn
The Orlando Clinical Research Center, the Mayo Clinic, and a
Cincinnati facility are the three places where studies will be
conducted to determine the optimal dose for the smallpox vaccine.
The tests will also see whether a new technique of creating the
vaccine is as effective as the old method. Acambis has been paid
$428 million by the U.S. government for 155 million doses of the
vaccine. Currently, the government plans to inoculate some
emergency workers, not making smallpox vaccine available to the
general public unless an outbreak occurs.
