INTERNATIONAL IMMUNIZATION NEWS
"Israel Produces Smallpox Vaccine"
Associated Press ( www.ap.org ) (08/05/02)
According to Health Ministry spokesman Ido Hadari, Israel has
produced enough smallpox vaccine to immunize the country's 6.6
million people, plus tourists and about 300,000 foreign workers,
in the event of a biological strike by Iraq or terrorist groups.
Hadari said that the decision to produce the vaccine was spurred
by fears of a possible biological attack. Israel has not decided
to start vaccinating its people; however, Hadari said that a
trigger could be a U.S. strike on Iraq or a terrorist attack, for
example.
