"Experts Sent to Madagascar to Tackle Killer Flu"
Reuters ( www.reuters.com ) (08/09/02)
The World Health Organization (WHO) is sending experts in
epidemiology and infectious diseases to help deal with an
outbreak of influenza in Madagascar, where more than 300 people
have died from the disease since June. According to WHO
spokesperson Fadela Chaib, tests show that the strain involved in
the outbreak is influenza type A. Chaib noted that primary
health care in the region is lacking; most of the people who died
were unable to reach a hospital or medical facility, or they used
traditional health remedies that could not help them.
