The European Commission recommended this week
providing 200 million euros to develop new drugs and vaccines against HIV/AIDS,
malaria, and tuberculosis. The commission noted that the funds will be used in
a joint effort of EU member states, Norway, developing nations, and the
pharmaceutical industry. The proposal will be presented at the World Summit on
Sustainable Development being held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
