"Cholera Kills 1,000 Malawians in Nine Months"
Reuters (www.reuters.com) (08/23/02)
Approximately 1,000 people in Malawi died from cholera between October 2001 and June of this year, Health Ministry official Habib Somanje said Friday. Some 33,000 people were infected during the nine-month period, compared to 2,000 in the nine months to June 2001 and 4,000 in the nine months to June 2000. In anticipation for this year's rainy season and an expected new outbreak of cholera, the government has set up a task force to try to contain the disease during the rainy season.
