INTERNATIONAL IMMUNIZATION NEWS
"Australia Buys Vaccine to Fight Smallpox Attack"
Sydney Daily Telegraph (w ww.dailytelegraph.news.com.au )
(08/18/02) P. 35; Denholm, Matthew
Two unnamed foreign companies plan to deliver a stockpile of
smallpox vaccine to Australia over the next few months, a Health
Department spokesperson announced. The Australian government has
allocated A$11.4 million for vaccines and antibiotics to be used
in the event of a bioterrorist attack. If such an attack occurs,
the current plan is that of "ring vaccination," in which only
those who come into contact with infected people would be
vaccinated against the disease.
