Free Immunizations Offered For Students

Free immunizations are being offered to children in time for the new school year.

Starting Monday and continuing through Aug. 30, the Indianapolis Immunization Coalition and its partners will provide the shots at various locations in Indianapolis.

Indiana law requires that students receive certain vaccines before returning to school in the fall. Most of the requirements focus on kindergartners and students in grades 1, 2, and 6.

Also, Indianapolis Public Schools have decided to implement a first-day exclusion policy, under which students will not be allowed to attend school until they have received the required shots.

For a list of requirements and more information on the free immunization program, visit the Back To School Shots page of the Marion County Health Department's Web site.

Parents who take their kids to get the free shots are asked to bring the kids' immunization records to the site if possible.
