"Vaccines Under Scrutiny in Cape Town"

South African Press Association (04/09/02)

A three-day conference being held in Cape Town, South Africa, this week is bringing together health and finance ministers from several countries to discuss the problems faced by impoverished nations in securing vaccines for their children.  Many developing nations do not have the resources to immunize children against measles, whooping cough, tetanus, hepatitis B and polio despite the vaccines' relatively low cost and aggressive effectiveness. The conference plans to address immunization campaign financing and program expansions in addition to discussing what progress has been made toward finding vaccines against malaria and AIDS.
