Zimbabwe: AIDS
Vaccine Network Launches Clinical Trials
The first
simultaneous testing of an AIDS vaccine in the United States and Africa will
involve Epimmune's EP HIV-1090 product. Botswana Minister of Health Joy
Phumaphi lauds the HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN) for bringing the research
to her country. HVTN researcher Dr. Larry Corey said that African participation
is important because the continent is most affected by AIDS. Public affairs and
strategic communications officer Claire Barnard notes that the vaccine has shown
that it may induce an initial immune response in laboratory studies.
