Scripps Research
Institute scientists have developed a vaccine against nicotine that removes the
addictive chemical before it gets to the brain. Principal investigators Kim
Janda and Michael Meijler have reformulated the vaccine, which was previously
found effective in laboratory models, for human clinical trials. The research,
described in detail in the Journal of the American Chemical Society, is based on
previous research by Janda into a vaccine against cocaine, which is currently in
human clinical trials.
