“Kenya: Phase 2 of AIDS Vaccine Trials Begins”

The Kenya AIDS Vaccine Initiative (KAVI) has announced the beginning of its second phase of trials for an HIV vaccine, which will be tested on between 100 and 1,000 people in four cities in England and Kenya.  The first phase involved two groups of 18 volunteers each, and no side effects were observed, according to KAVI Team Leader Job Bwayo.  The second phase is meant to test intervals that the vaccine should be given in, where on the body it should be given, and conditions under which it should be administered.
