Following discovery of a potentially ineffective batch of BCG vaccine, children in north County Mayo, Ireland, will receive the BCG vaccine again in July in order to ensure adequate protection from tuberculosis (TB). Parents first heard of the problem in December and returned consent forms for their children to be re-vaccinated. The health board made no further plans until residents expressed concern following the death of a local person from TB and reports of four confirmed TB cases at a center in the region.
