“Botswana Trials Start on AIDS Vaccine Tolerance by Adults”

Botswana, which has the highest HIV rate in the world, will soon begin testing the safety of an experimental AIDS vaccine on HIV-negative adults. According to the Botswana-Harvard AIDS Partnership for HIV Research and Education, the trial will involve giving the EP HIV-1090 vaccine to 42 healthy volunteers from Botswana and the United States.  Research site director Dr. Tony Villafana said the first phase of the study will assess whether “the vaccine is safe and well-tolerated in humans.”
