INTERNATIONAL IMMUNIZATION NEWS

 

“WHO Eyes 24-Hour Global Network on SARS, Other Diseases”

The World Health Organization (WHO) is discussing a proposal that would create a 24-hour infectious disease network among its member nations. According to a senior WHO official, the WHO plans to present to the WHO general assembly a three-part plan that includes a round-the-clock disease network, increased enforcement of monitoring services, and the use of unofficial data.  The proposal would expand current provisions that only require member countries to declare cholera, yellow fever, and the plague, increasing the number of infectious diseases that are subject to the WHO's International Health Regulations.
