2.884.441 Children Vaccinated Against Measles

A total of 2.884.441 children from nine months to 15 years of age were vaccinated in the country's 18 provinces, during the second phase of the vaccination campaign against measles held May 03-09.
A document from the Ministry of Health (Minsa) said these "preliminary" results were obtained in 73 municipalities, out of the 143 foreseen, corresponding to 51 per cent of immunized children.
In Bengo province were vaccinated 30.701, Benguela 507.645, Bié 56.635, Cabinda 22.223, Cunene 46.804, Huambo 164.651, Huíla 247.583, Kuando-Kubango 57.460, Kwanza-Norte 24.403 and Kwanza-Sul 6.524.
Luanda immunized 1.337.847, Lunda-Norte 58.387, Malanje 49.726, Moxico 85.349, Namibe 16.640, Uíge 121.506, whereas Zaire vaccinated 10.430 kids.
For the second phase of the campaign were used three million vaccine portions, the same number of disposable syringes and 32.000 boxes of destruction of syringes and used needles.
