INTERNATIONAL IMMUNIZATION NEWS
"Measles Outbreak Reported in Northern
Tajikistan"
Approximately 1,000 cases of measles have been
detected in the northern Soghd region of Tajikistan. According to reports,
there are many cases of measles in the Bobojon, Ghafurov, and Isfara districts,
and in Khujand City, mainly affecting children between seven and 10 years of age
and between 16 and 17 years. During the Soviet era, children were vaccinated at
one year and then again at six or seven years of age; however, a shortage of
vaccines prevented that between 1992 and 1999.
