“Medical Experts Develop Anti- SARS Virus Agents”
Xinhua News Agency (202.84.17.11/en/main.htm) (05/12/03)
Prominent researchers are using techniques similar to those used for HIV and AIDS research to develop synthetic peptides which may help block the coronavirus from entering human cells. The peptides, if they prove successful in animal and human trials, would help treat people with severe acute respiratory syndrome, and possibly be used to vaccinate people against the virus. Researchers from the University of Hong Kong and Dr. David Ho, of the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center in New York, developed the peptides, but they note that much more work needs to be done.
