BioVex, a private biotech firm in the United Kingdom, has signed a letter of intent with the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) regarding the development of an HIV vaccine. The vaccine is to use BioVex’s ImmunoVEX herpes simplex-based platform and will incorporate HIV antigen genes from NIAID’s Vaccine Research Center (VRC) in an effort to maximize the immune response to HIV. The VRC is to assess the vaccine in preclinical models, BioVex said.
