"Ontario Introduces Vaccination Program for High-Risk Infants"

Canada NewsWire (www.newswire.ca) (05/01/03)

This fall in Ontario, Canada, infants with an underlying medical condition that makes them more susceptible to invasive pneumococcal diseases will be vaccinated with Prevnar.  The Prevnar vaccine was approved in Canada in June 2001, and last year Canada's National Advisory Committee on Immunization recommended that all children under the age of five years be vaccinated against pneumococcal disease.  Invasive pneumococcal disease can lead to hearing loss, speech and learning disabilities, paralysis, and even death, if left untreated.
