Autistic Children and the PLAY Project

Reported by Christy McDonald
Web produced by Kelly Reynolds

The PLAY in PLAY Project stands for Play and Language for Autistic Youngsters.

Researchers at the University of Michigan may have found a way to break through to autistic children.
The answer is an intensive program that's based in play.

In their study, U of M researchers found that half of children in the play project had good to excellent success, and one third made fair progress. For parents of autistic children, any improvement is very encouraging.

The play approach is relatively inexpensive, costing about $2,500 a year per child.

For more information, contact the U of M PLAY Project on line or call 734-615-3338.

PLAY Project Golf Outing
In an effort to aid those families involved in the program, the PLAY Project and the Jamie Katschor Scholarship Fund will sponsor a charity golf outing at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 27, at the U-M Golf Course.

The charity golf outing is $150 per person (tax deductible) and will include 18-holes of golf, a cart, food, drinks and prizes. Registration for the event is due by Monday, March 31. For more information about the charity golf outing, call Christy Pratt at (734) 615-3338.
