"EuroVacc to Test Combination AIDS Vaccine in June"

DNA-C, developed by University of Regensburg, Germany, professor Hans Wolf, and its booster NYVAC, developed by Aventis, will be tested for safety as HIV vaccines in Switzerland and the United Kingdom this summer. The study will involve 160 healthy volunteers, some of whom will receive DNA-C and some of whom will receive NYVAC, while another safety trial in 2004 will give healthy volunteers both vaccines. DNA-C works by introducing DNA codes from HIV into the body in order to produce antibodies, according to Dr. Jean-Pierre Kraehenbuhl of the EuroVacc Foundation, which is organizing the trials.
