"Canada Announces US$100 Million for Developing World Immunization"
Agence France Presse (www.afp.com/english/home) (05/01/03)
UNICEF's immunization and vitamin programs in developing nations have received a US$100 million boost from the Canadian government. According to International Development Minister Susan Whelan, US$56 million will go toward a five-year vaccination effort against such diseases as tuberculosis, measles, diphtheria, and tetanus, while US$21 million will be used to buy newer vaccines, such as those against yellow fever. The funds will also be used to purchase vitamin A capsules, which can help prevent blindness among children in the developing world.
