The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, a
national child advocacy group, has recognized Utah Gov. Mike Leavitt and first
lady Jacalyn Leavitt for their commitment to improving the health of the state's
children. Gov. Leavitt helped develop a computerized immunization tracking
system that gives health providers immediate access to immunization records and
allows parents to receive updates about their child's immunization status. The
immunization rate for two-year-olds in Utah was previously the lowest in the
nation, but the Leavitts have worked to increase the rate to 66 percent.
