"Whooping Cough Cases on Rise"
Associated Press (www.ap.org) (02/28/03)
Already this year, the Wyoming Department of Health has confirmed 32 whooping cough cases in the southwestern area of the state, with the patients ranging in age from five months to 63 years. The majority of the cases have been in Sweetwater County, and health officials are monitoring the cases to make sure that everyone infected is receiving treatment, which involves a two-week course of antibiotics. The combined DTaP vaccine--which provides protection against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis--is recommended at two months, four months, six months, and 15 months of age, with a booster given at four to six years or prior to entry into school.
