"Health Officials Weigh Meningitis Program"
Vancouver Province (www.canada.com/vancouver/theprovince) (03/02/03) P. A13
In Canada, after an eight-year-old student at Abbotsford's L'Ecole Centennial Park Elementary became infected with meningitis C and a three-year-old boy died from the same bacterium late last month, more than 400 children, teachers, and staff at the school received shots against meningitis C. Fraser Health Authority medical health officer Andrew Larder asserts that two cases of the illness is not an outbreak and can be explained by the children's contact with a third person, who acted as a carrier of the disease.
