"Malaysia to Establish Vaccine Research Center"

The health minister of Malaysia announced Friday that the country plans to establish a research center to develop vaccines that can be used to help the country cope with disease outbreaks and possible bioterrorism attacks. Health Minister Chua Jui Meng said it is too dangerous to rely entirely on imported vaccines, especially in emergencies, and it is thus important for Malaysia to produce its owns vaccines.  The research center will cost more than 220 million ringgits to set up and run for five years, and should be fully operational by 2005.
