The Food and Drug Administration yesterday
warned Allergan, the pharmaceutical company,
that its advertisements for Botox were
illegal because they minimized the drug's
risks and promoted it for uses beyond those
the government had approved.
''We are very concerned that by
continuing to promote Botox Cosmetic in a
false and misleading manner these materials
are raising significant public health
concerns,'' wrote Steven A. Masiello,
director of the office of compliance in the
Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research
of the F.D.A.
