ABSTRACT
- EPA scientists conclude that atrazine,
country's most widely used pesticide, causes
sexual abnormalities in frogs, such as
multiple testes and multiple ovaries;
recommend further research into atrazine's
mechanisms and its broader impact on frog
populations; scientists hired by Syngenta,
major manufacturer of atrazine, dispute
finding; atrazine is popular with farmers
because it is effective and relatively
cheap; has been banned in seven European
countries (M) Scientists from the
Environmental Protection Agency say there is
''sufficient evidence'' to conclude that the
country's most widely used pesticide,
atrazine, causes sexual abnormality in
frogs.
They are recommending that the agency
conduct more research to understand
atrazine's mechanisms and its broader impact
on frog populations.
